Active Search for the Best Students

We’ve already discussed the numbers of student, faculty, and alumni home pages in college servers all over the world. You know how to search across the entire universe of .edu domains with a Power Search string, how to X-ray college servers to find people inside—and to Flip college sites to find those who’ve linked themselves from outside.
But these are techniques that recruiters normally use to find experienced candidates—not students. Why? Simply because college recruiting has always been a separate discipline, one that has traditionally relied on campus visits, career fairs, and open houses to build a candidate base. But doesn’t it make more sense to search for the very best students and actively recruit them, well ahead of campus career day? In every school there is a top percentile of students that you can now identify and make contact and build relationships with. The sooner, the better.
