Some job hunters are unaware that they’re not getting themselves across effectively, despite their intelligence and good experience. If you are concerned about your presentation, invite criticism, as described on page 105, and take advantage of the information you receive. Many job hunters with successful careers may have worked on
jobs in which they interacted with the same relatively small group of people day after day. If so, they may have been able to get along with only passable communications skills. In a job search, however, a weak presentation considerably limits your opportunities and will lead to a longer search with a less satisfactory result. If your selling skills are only passable, be comforted in knowing you have plenty of company, including lots of successful job hunters. However, use this opportunity to become a better salesman of yourself to help in your job search and in the future.
