Many people believe that job hunters overstate their qualifications. In fact, some do, but many job hunters understate some, overlook a few, and present others ineffectively. Your most important task is to prepare
to present yourself most favorably to everyone you deal with in your job search. Presenting yourself as favorably as possible is critical because you usually have only one chance to clear each of the hurdles leading to an offer. What’s more, all employers will regard each of your actions as your best. So being at your best is important.
Presenting yourself favorably requires using accomplishment statements to describe your experience. You should use them in every aspect of your search, such as in networking, dealing with recruiters, making appointments, and interviewing. Accomplishments are “the language of job hunting.”
